Sandy drops of warm desert rain
By hisham
The wind is warm, yet the overcast foretells of inevitable drizzle. Not rain, mind you. Just drizzle, the sort of rain that announces itself longer than the time it takes it to come down and be done with.
Rejoice, car wash men, for sandy drops of water; mischievous as they are, will splatter on all, leaving no vehicle; however fancy and gemlike, unsoiled. And fall they do, for about half an hour.
A sorry state Maybachs and Porsches might be in, the same with taxis and fellows on bicycles. Yet of all the things that matter, none matter the most as the beauty we behold following the drizzle. Indeed, a sight for sore eyes. Eyes that have been dry for so long by a warm desert wind.
“A rainbow! It’s beautiful, come take a look,” my friend beckons.
I look, and surely there it is, beautiful, captivating, worry free. With all the scraping skyscrapers ever higher, here’s a reminder that nature, above all, conquers all. With a simple drizzle, a technicolor brushstroke from the heavens arches downwards. A gentle cue for us mere mortals, lest we forget with our glass, metal and concrete, of nature’s own magnificence.
“Not a pot of gold, but Emirates Towers. That’s what’s at the end of the rainbow. At least in Dubai!” I say, snapping away, hoping to capture the moment.
